R&D Lead Mechanical Design Engineer - County Galway.

This role will be part of a cross-functional team developing next generation systems for the automotive market. This is a diverse position where the successful applicant leads the mechanical aspects of their project(s), to deliver robust designs on time and within budget.

Lead the research and development of mechanical design solutions from concept to launch.
Lead technical communication with customers and suppliers. Interfacing across a multi-disciplinary environment in a clear and effective manner.
Analyse customer and functional requirements specifications in order to define performance criteria to be achieved.
Leads mechanical team members in the design activities including DFMEA, DFM, DTC and simulation activities. Develop project plans for the mechanical aspects and maintain them.
Design 3D models and prepare definition files for products, prototypes and test means. Create 2D drawing with functional dimensions according to ISO standards. Manage drawing lifecycle in the PLM tool.
Lead tolerance analysis activities and resulting dimensional optimisations. Define and identify functional and critical characteristics.
Hands on approach to prototyping, bench testing, data gathering and debug analysis.

Engineering Degree/ Masters in a relevant area e.g. Mechanical Engineering
Minimum 6 years' post-qualification industrial experience. Experience within the automotive industry is a plus. Broad experience in injection moulding, metal casting, metal forming, adhesives and prototype-manufacturing methods is a distinct advantage.

Competent in the use of a 3D CAD package ideally Catia V5 R24 onwards. Interpretation of the results from Simulation Reports and feeding back on the same.

Knowledge of thermal, EMC and environmental design for electronics is an advantage.

Experience with risk analysis tools – DFMEA or similar. Thorough understanding of GD+T methods and drafting techniques Formal problem solving training and use eg. PDCA/DMAIC/8D.
