EHS and Sustainability Manager - County Westmeath.

In this role, as a member of the Management Team, you will act as the site manager with primary responsibility for meeting the needs of the business and expectations of stakeholders, including employees, state agencies, and customers, in terms of sustainability and health and safety.
The purpose of this role is to develop best practice strategies, provide governance, and implement the company’s environmental, health and safety program as well as the company’s sustainability program in order to develop a EHS and Sustainability circle of excellence. This will mean ensuring the company upholds and works towards finding new, innovative and economically reductive ways to reduce the carbon footprint.


Principal Accountabilities

Health and Safety-
Key responsibilities will be:
• Develop, implement and monitor the Health and Safety strategy across the business
• Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture that lives and breathes health and safety
• Evaluating practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law

Environmental and Sustainability-
Key responsibilities will be:
• Develop, implement and monitor the company’s Environmental Strategy.
• Implement best practice with the aim to be leaders in sustainability locally and abroad
• Measure the company’s sustainability performance
• Working closely with the business, to educate and inform them on the changes you’re looking to implement and how they will impact the environment and workplace

Compliance-
Key responsibilities will be:
• Manage all aspects of the site’s compliance with its Integrated Pollution Control License.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including those set by OSHA and the EPA
• Implement internal policies to support employee health and safety and environmental regulations
• Submit permit applications and renewals
• Follow regulatory reporting requirements
• Liaise with external bodies such as Certification Europe, EPA, Irish Water.
• Manage waste recycling and disposal.
• Responsible for internal environmental and health and safety training (Company Induction, Toolbox Talks). Monitoring of the effluent treatment plant and EPA licence related sampling.
• Manage the effluent treatment system and ensure compliance to license requirements.

People Leadership-
Key responsibilities will be:

Interested applicants should have:
• Degree in Environmental Science, Health and Safety, Science, Engineering, or similar
• Experience with IPPC licencing requirements essential
• Manufacturing experience in industry strongly preferred
• At least 2 years' people management experience
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and report writing skills
• Manual Handling Instructor & DSE Risk Assessor would be beneficial.
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance procedures, publications, and an ability to interpret relevant legislation on behalf of the company.

An understanding of:
Irish H&S and Environmental legislation and regulation
Site permitting & reporting obligations (e.g. air, water, waste)
Product commercialisation process and global product compliance standards (equipment, chemical, packaging, etc.)
